On November 3rd, the high school Spanish classes got to travel to El Museo Latino to celebrate Dia de los Muertos! The museum had plenty of artwork and artifacts filled with rich history that captivated the students. They learned about Spanish heritage and history while also gaining knowledge of other cultures’ celebrations. They engaged in creating “papel picado”, which is a paper art form used to decorate on this holiday. After their historical session at the museum, we trekked up the hill to the International Bakery where the students were able to try a taste of pastries from Hispanic countries. I also brought the students to the RiverFront for some recreational activities. There, they were able to spend the rest of our time relaxing, reflecting and experiencing a new area they may not have explored. The students, while being well behaved, were very enthusiastic about this field trip and I look forward to continuing this tradition in the future.

Good Afternoon, We will have school tomorrow! Water has been restored in Mondamin and a boil order has been put in place for the community. We have purchased cases of water for students and staff to utilize for drinking and more will be purchased if needed until the boil order is lifted. Custodians will also be putting out hand sanitizer for student use in classrooms and restrooms as an additional precaution while under the boil order. The kitchen will be utilizing disposable plates for breakfast and lunch. Have a great evening! Mr. Fonley

The BUSS Regional Center, a partnership between Iowa Western, Missouri Valley Community Schools, Logan-Magnolia Community Schools, Tri-Center Community Schools, and West Harrison CSD held its ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday. This center was made possible with a $300,000 donation from Larry and Bunny Buss of Missouri Valley, IA, and a $1 million grant secured by Iowa Western Community College through the state's Career Academy Incentive Fund, which allows colleges to increase access to career academy programs in high-demand fields. The center is currently providing classes in welding and construction, with plans to add electrical and ag courses. West Harrison currently has three students enrolled at the center.
